FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State drained 16 three-pointers and got a career-high 22-point scoring performance from
R.J. Hutcherson as the Falcons rolled past Glenville State by a 91-70 margin on Wednesday night at Joe Retton Arena. The win is Fairmont's sixth in a row overall and the 31
st-consecutive win inside Joe Retton Arena for the Falcons.
The Falcons finished the evening going 37-of-80 from the field (46.3%) and 16-of-44 from behind the arc (36.4%). Fairmont State also passed out 24 assists on 37 made baskets and held a 49-38 advantage on the glass.
On the defensive end, the Falcons completely shutdown Glenville State's leader scorer, allowing Darhius Nunn to score just four points on 1-of-13 from the field. Nunn was averaging 19.3 points per outing coming into the game.
In addition to scoring a team- and career-high 22 points to lead Fairmont State, Hutcherson also pulled down 10 rebounds to record his second career double-double performance. Hutcherson hit six of Fairmont's 16 three-pointers in the win.
The Falcons (13-4, 9-2 MEC) also got 18 points, six rebounds and six assists from
Caleb Davis, and 12 points and six rebounds from
Vonte Montgomery.
Jason Jolly passed out a team-high eight assists in the victory and
D'Ondre Stockman just missed double-figures with nine points in the victory on a trio of three-pointers.
Fairmont State held a 15-4 advantage in points off turnovers and tallied a 19-4 advantage in second-chance points. The Falcons shot just three free throw attempts in the game (1-of-3).
Glenville State (2-14, 1-10 MEC) was paced by 12 points and six rebounds from Elisha Mayberry. The Pioneers also got 11 points from Jon Dunmyer and 10 apiece from Theo Brown, Brooks Ely and J.R. Kerr.
FSU will now prepare for a 4 p.m. MEC showdown with the Rams of Shepherd University on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
