Kotchman Drops 30 To Lead FSU Past Concord

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Sierra Kotchman dropped in 30 points to lead the Fairmont State women to a 77-63 victory over Concord on Saturday afternoon inside Joe Retton Arena. In addition to Kotchman's offensive performance, the Falcons also forced the Mountain Lions into 21 turnovers in the victory.
 
With the win, Fairmont State improved to 7-6 overall, including a 3-5 mark in Mountain East Conference play. Concord fell to 4-7 on the season (2-6 MEC).
 
Fairmont State held a 13-7 advantage in points off turnovers, and also held a 14-6 edge in fast break points in the victory. Concord held a 44-39 advantage on the glass and scored 16 second-chance points in the losing effort.
 
Kotchman finished the evening going 11-of-25 from the field with a trio of 3-pointers, two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Brooke Kurucz also chipped in 12 points and three steals and Rachel Laskody and Kelli Jo Harrison both added 10 in the post for the Falcons. Harrison finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high nine in the win.
 
Both teams shot 41 percent from the floor on the afternoon, with FSU holding a 6-3 advantage from behind the arc.
 
Concord got a team-high 19 points and 17 rebounds from Riley Fitzwater in the loss. Madison May also chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Mountain Lions.
 
The Falcons will now prepare for its Ohio road trip, which begins next Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. tip at Urbana.
