SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Fairmont State fell 3-0 in Mountain East Conference action at Shepherd on Tuesday evening (25-13, 25-23, 28-26).
Shepherd (20-9, 9-5 MEC) started fast in the match with a lopsided 25-13 victory in the opening set. The Rams recorded a .423 attacking percentage in the opening set. Fairmont State recovered from the slow start in sets two and three as each set was decided by just two points (25-23, 28-26).
Shepherd recorded a .320 attacking percentage in the victory, compared to .133 for the Falcons. Fairmont State, however, held a 6-5 advantage in blocks and a 6-4 advantage in aces.
Michaela Levings paced the Fairmont State offense with eight kills in the setback.
Rebecca Feeney also chipped in seven kills and a team-high four total blocks.
Kelsey Moeller recorded a team-high 15 assists and seven digs in the match. Senior
Megan Clerico also chipped in seven digs.
Peyton Lindblad paced Shepherd in the victory with 14 kills and three total blocks. Nicole Murray and Cambriea Hill added 10 kills apiece.
Fairmont State will return home on Friday evening to host Glenville State in a 7 p.m. match at Joe Retton Arena.
