Falcons Lock Down Wesleyan To Earn Sixth Win In A Row

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Fairmont State used smothering defense and an efficient offense to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, 65-52, on Saturday afternoon at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon.
 
With the win, Fairmont State has now won six-straight games and improves to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in MEC play. WVWC falls to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
 
Fairmont State held a 35-29 lead over West Virginia Wesleyan at halftime and never looked back on its way to a 65-52 win. With Fairmont State holding a narrow 49-45 advantage with 7:28 remaining in the second half, the Falcons outscored the Bobcats 16-7 down the stretch to wrap up the win.
 
The Falcons shot 55% from the floor, outrebounded the Bobcats 29-16, and scored 12 points off turnovers. The Falcons also went 10-of-21 from behind the arc (47.6%).
 
On the defensive end, Fairmont State limited Wesleyan to just 42.2 percent from the field (19-of-45), and 28.0 percent from three (7-of-25).

Jason Jolly and Vonte Montgomery both netted 14 points in the win for Fairmont State. Andrew Emrick added 12 points while R.J. Hutcherson scored nine points and grabbed nine boards. Fairmont State's bench accounted for 24 of its points.
 
With Montgomery's seven points in the opening half of the game, the senior guard became the 49th player in school history to go over 1,000 career points.

Daylin Lee and Clay Todd both tallied 15 points for West Virginia Wesleyan. Luka Petrovic scored nine and grabbed a team-high five rebounds for the Bobcats. 

The Falcons will now be idle until Wednesday evening when Fairmont State travels to Wheeling Jesuit in MEC action. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
