FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Sierra Kotchman drained five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 20 points to lead Fairmont State to a non-conference victory over Davis & Elkins on Monday evening at Joe Retton Arena.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves 5-6 overall on the season. D&E falls to 3-6 on the year.
As a team, the Falcons shot 45 percent from the field (23-of-51) and made 11 3-pointers. The Falcons passed out 16 assists on 23 made baskets in the win.
Defensively, the Falcons locked down on the Senators, allowing the visitors to shoot just 35.8 percent from the field (19-of-53) with only five 3-pointers. Fairmont State also forced 20 turnovers on the defensive end, which turned into 24 points at the opposite end of the court.
D&E held a 42-29 advantage on the glass, which included 18 offensive rebounds.
In addition to Kotchman team-high scoring performance, the Falcons also got 13 points apiece from
Brooke Kurucz and
Rachel Laskody, and
Kamrin Weimer netted nine points on a trio of 3-pointers. Laskody pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and
Gracey Lamm led the team with five assists.
Colleena Burdock and Kali Wilburn each netted 13 points apiece for Davis & Elkins in the setback. Burdock scored nine of her 13 points at the free throw line.
The Falcons will now break for Christmas during the Division II off week. Fairmont State will return action on Sunday, Dec. 30 against Wayne State. Tip is set for 2 p.m. in Detroit, Mich.
