Falcons Bury 20 Three-Pointers, Take Down Shepherd 79-76

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Jason Jolly drained 12 three-pointers to led Fairmont State to a come-from-behind victory over Shepherd, 79-76, on Saturday afternoon at the Butcher Center in Shepherdstown.
 
Jolly's 12 three-pointers are the second-most in a single game in program history – behind Chase Connor's 13 three-pointers on Feb. 18, 2016 against West Virginia State. The junior is also closing in on the Fairmont State record for career three-pointer with 213. Thad McFadden holds the program record with 216 three-pointers from 2007-09.
 
With the win, the Falcons have clinched the No. 3-seed in next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament with a 21-7 overall record and a 17-5 mark in MEC play. Fairmont State will open tournament play on Friday at 2:15 p.m. against sixth-seeded Concord.
 
Jolly finished just four points shy of a career-high in the victory with 36 points to go with two assists. Jolly went 12-of-19 from behind the arc. Andrew Emrick also reached double figures in the victory with 10. In addition, D'Ondre Stockman wrapped up the afternoon with a trio of three-pointers to chip in nine points, and Vince Franklin turned in another solid performance with six points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
 
Fairmont State shot 50 percent from the field (29-of-58), including a sizzling 57.1 percent in the second half. The story for the Falcons came from behind the arc, as Fairmont State made a season-high 20 three-pointers in the win – shooting 20-of-42 from long range.
 
Shepherd (16-12, 12-10 MEC), who led by as many as 12 at the 12:54 mark of the opening half, got a team-high 20 points on 4-of-8 from behind the arc from Steffen Davis. The Rams also got 16 points and six assists from Thomas Lang, 14 points and 10 rebounds from AJ Carr, and 10 points and seven boards from Winston Burgess.
 
Shepherd also put on a strong shooting performance on Saturday afternoon, draining 49.2 percent from the field (31-of-63) - including 56.3 percent in the second half (18-of-32). Shepherd went 7-of-20 from behind the arc (35%).
