WISE, Va. -- Fairmont State rolled to a Mountain East Conference sweep of the University of Virginia's College at Wise on Friday afternoon, defeating the Cavs 16-0 and 14-7 at Stallard Field in Wise, Va.
With the sweep, Fairmont State improves to 10-13 overall and 4-6 in the league. UVa-Wise falls to 8-15 overall and 5-5 in the league.
On the day, the Falcons combined for 30 runs and 36 hits in the doubleheader.
Game 1
Fairmont State ace
Michael Stout improved to 5-1 on the season in the shutout victory in game one, striking out 10 batters and scattering five hits in six innings of work for the Falcons.
Drew Hetzel recorded the final three outs of the game for the Falcons in relief of Stout.
The Falcons scored a run in all but two innings in the game, getting multiple hits from seven different hitters in the Fairmont State lineup.
Tyler Hill led the way for the Falcons going 4-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Tyler Skidmore and
Darrin Zombro each chipped in three hits apiece for Fairmont State, and
Greg Yaksich,
Brooks Carr and Joe LaRocca tallied two hits apiece. Yaksich and LaRocca each recorded two doubles for the Falcons.
FSU totaled 12 extra-base hits in game one, including home runs by
Austin Norman and Skidmore. Six different players recorded a double in the game for the Falcons.
Game 2
In game two, Fairmont State fell behind by a 6-2 margin entering the final inning of play, before the Falcons plated 12 runs in the top of the seventh to take control of the game and earn the sweep with a 14-7 win in the late game.
The Falcons recorded four extra-base hits in the second game of the day, with three of the four coming in the seventh inning of play with doubles by Zombro and LaRocca and a home run by Myers to pace the 12-run inning for FSU.
LaRocca led the way for the Falcons in game two,, going 3-of-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the game. Myers, Hill, Zombro and
Jacob Goodnight each tallied two hits apiece for the Falcons in game two.
Roberto Velasquez (1-1) earned his first victory in a Fairmont State uniform on Friday afternoon, pitching the fifth and sixth innings for the Falcons in the come-from-behind win. Five pitchers saw action in game two for FSU.
