BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Six members of the Fairmont State baseball team earned All-Mountain East Conference honors from the league on Wednesday afternoon, including
Michael Stout, who was named the MEC Pitcher of the Year and first team All-MEC as the ace of the FSU pitching staff.
Stout was joined on the first team by center fielder
Austin Norman and second baseman
Darrin Zombro. Catcher
Tyler Hill, left fielder
Ben Myers and right fielder
Greg Yaksich each garnered MEC honorable mention accolades.
Norman became a three-time, first team All-MEC performer and Stout was named to the MEC first team for the second-consecutive season. Hill and Myers earned MEC honorable mention for the second-consecutive season.
Stout, a junior from St. Mary's, W.Va., is the MEC Pitcher of the Year after going 8-3 with a 1.68 ERA for the Fighting Falcons. Stout's ERA is the best in conference history and ranks 11th in NCAA Division II this season. He also ranks second in the league in wins (8) and strikeouts (88). Stout pitched three shutouts on the year, had five complete games, and gave up multiple runs in a game just four times in 11 starts. Opposing batters hit just .194 against Stout this season.
Norman, a three-time first team All-MEC standout, batted .396 with 10 home runs, 45 runs batted-in and 16 doubles on the season. Norman also finished the year with a .689 slugging percentage and scored 41 runs. Norman also tallied a team-high 14 stolen bases and had a .474 on-base percentage. Norman finished the year tied for the league lead in doubles with 16. He also ranked fourth in the league in batting average, second in hits (65) and third in home runs and total bases (113). Norman was named National Player of the Week by the NCBWA after hitting .514 with four home runs and 19 RBI's during the first eight games of the season.
Zombro, a senior from Inwood, W.Va., ranked second in the league and 14
th in the country in batting average at .417 this season. The starting second baseman finished the year with a .597 slugging percentage and totaled three home runs, 14 doubles and 23 runs batted-in on the year. Zombro accounted for 30 runs scored this season and had a .478 on-base percentage.
Hill, a junior catcher from Lancaster, Ohio, finished third on the team in hitting, batting .380 with seven home runs and 36 runs batted-in on the year. Hill also had eight doubles, 29 runs scored and finished the year with a .620 slugging percentage.
Myers, a senior outfielder from Grove City, Ohio, batted .319 with three home runs, 28 runs batted-in and 14 doubles this season. Myers also scored 46 runs on the year and totaled a .458 slugging percentage in 49 starts this season. Myers ranked fourth in the MEC in runs scored as a senior.
Yaksich, a junior outfielder from Pittsburgh, Pa., ranked fourth on the team in hitting this season, batting .336 with three home runs and 32 RBI's. Yaksich also finished second on the team with eight stolen bases and had a .448 slugging percentage. Yaksich recorded 77 putouts and committed no error as a starter in the outfield this season.
In addition to Stout earning pitcher of the year honors, Shepherd outfielder Brenton Doyle was named the MEC Player of the Year. West Virginia State's Andrew Stone was tabbed as the MEC Freshman of the Year, and Shepherd's Matt McCarty was selected as the league's Coach of the Year.
