ATHENS, W.Va. -- Concord shot 50 percent from the field and pulled away for an 87-69 home victory over Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center in Athens.
With the setback, Fairmont State falls to 5-9 overall and 2-6 in Mountain East Conference play. Concord improved to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the league.
Fairmont State had three players in double figures on the afternoon, led by 11 points apiece from
Sierra Kotchman and
Gracey Lamm.
Kamrin Weimer also chipped in 10 points and
Molly Rinkevich came off the bench to finish with seven points, seven rebounds and a block.
The Falcons shot 40 percent from the floor, including a solid 9-of-20 performance from behind the arc. Fairmont State passed out 14 assists on 26 made baskets, getting six assists from Lamm.
In addition to shooting 50 percent from the field (including 56.8 percent in the first three quarters of play), the Mountain Lions also held a commanding 45-27 advantage on the glass.
Andreanna Pool paced the Mountain Lions with 20 points on 7-of-16 from the field. Tamra Scott also chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds, and Madison May added 13 points and seven boards. Maggie Guynn came off the bench to chip in 10. Emily Boothe pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for Concord.
Fairmont State will return home on Thursday evening for another MEC matchup against Urbana. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
