Kotchman's 27 Leads Fairmont State Past Urbana, 89-84

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Sierra Kotchman netted 27 points to lead Fairmont State to an 89-84 victory over Urbana on Thursday evening at Joe Retton Arena. The victory halted a three-game skid and helped the Falcons improve to 6-9 overall and 3-6 in Mountain East Conference games.
 
The Falcons shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 52 percent in the second half to help close out the victory. Fairmont State also had a solid performance from behind the arc at 43.8 percent (7-of-16), and passed out 16 assists on 29 made baskets.
 
In addition to her scoring performance, Kotchman also chipped in five rebound, three assists and two steals. The sophomore accounted for four of Fairmont's seven 3-pointers in the game. Rachel Laskody also recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. Laskody also passed out four assists and went 9-of-18 from the field. Kamrin Weimer (14) and Brooke Kurucz (12) also reached double-figures in the win.

Laskody's 14 rebounds matched a career high.
 
Despite being outrebounded by four (45-41), the Falcons scored 38 points in the paint and also tallied 10 second-chance points.
 
Urbana (1-12, 1-8 MEC) had six players reach double-figures in the setback, led by Sa'Dera Johnson with 19 points to go with five rebounds and five assists. Erin Morrow also chipped in 15 points and seven rebounds, and Sylvia Hudson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Fairmont State limited Urbana to just 39.4 percent from the field on Thursday evening. However, 10 of Urbana's 28 baskets came from behind the arc.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena against Notre Dame College. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
