Fairmont State Tops Davis & Elkins With Late Goal

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's Mackenzie Gillispie scored a goal in the 88th minute to lift the Falcons to a huge Mountain East Conference victory over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field.
 
Gillispie's goal was set up by a free kick from Angelina Kaylor that allowed the freshman to score from six-yards out from the center of the field - just inside the box.
 
With the victory, the Falcons are now 6-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in Mountain East Conference play. D&E falls to 5-3-1 overall and 4-2 in the league. The Falcons are currently leading the MEC North Division by one point over Urbana. Fairmont State will face the south-leading Concord Mountain Lions on Sunday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field. The showdown is set for 4 p.m.
 
Fairmont State held a 12-4 advantage in total shots over Davis & Elkins on Wednesday night, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Fairmont State also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
Both teams put together great defensive performances on Wednesday evening with D&E goalkeeper Katie Clarke recording four saves, and Taylor Kennedy stopping both of the Senators on-target shots in the game. Clarke recorded four saves in the game before allowing Gillispie's game winner to reach the back of the net.
 
Lacy Bryant led the Falcons offensively with four total shots in the game, three of which were on target. Gillispie also attempted four shots in the game, with two being on target.
