FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Concord University outlasted Fairmont State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon in a battle of Mountain East Conference division leaders at Duvall-Rosier Field.

With the victory, Concord improves to 9-1 overall and 5-1 in MEC play. Fairmont State falls to 6-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in league play. Despite the loss, Fairmont State still sits in a tie atop the northern division standings with Urbana University. Both teams have 16 points heading into this week's MEC action.

Concord got on the board early in the game when Mira Kontio used an assist from Leah Foster in the 11
th minute to break the scoreless tie. That score would remain the same until halftime as the Mountain Lions had an 11-0 shot advantage in the first half of play.

Early in the second half during the 52
nd minute of play, Fairmont State's
Abigail Fowler tied the game at 1-1 after
Olivia Liston found Fowler from about 12 yards away and the sophomore scored into the upper right side of the goal past the keeper. The goal was the third of the season for Fowler, who is currently tied for third on the team with six points. Liston's assist was her first of the season.

After an assist earlier in the game, Foster provided the game-winning goal later in the second half on an unassisted shot from outside the left side of the box during the 79
th minute. With Foster's goal and assist in the game, the sophomore now has 20 points on the season.

Fowler nearly scored her second goal of the day in the 89
th minute when the sophomore created a chance off a free kick that was saved in the bottom right of the goal.

The Mountain Lions dominated the offensive end of the field on Sunday afternoon with an 18-3 shot advantage, including an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. CU also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.

Fairmont State goalkeeper
Taylor Kennedy recorded six saves after facing eight on-target shots during the game. Fowler provided two of Fairmont State's three shots in the game, with
Cameryn Ciresi firing the third shot.

Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a road matchup at Glenville State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
