FROSTBURG, Md. -- Fairmont State's
Abigail Fowler netted her second goal of the season to help Fairmont State pick up a 1-0 Mountain East Conference victory over Frostburg State on Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium.

With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 5-2-1 overall and remains unbeaten in MEC play with a 4-0-1 mark. Frostburg slips to 3-4-1 overall and 3-2 in MEC play.

Fowler's goal was setup by a perfectly placed corner kick from
Ella Wilson in the 51
st minute to break the scoreless tie. Fowler scored the goal into the bottom right corner of the Frostburg goal, beating the keeper for the only score of the night. Wilson's assist was her second of the season as the sophomore is third on the team in scoring with six total points (2 goals, 2 assists).

Defensive play dominated the action on Thursday night, as the two teams combined for just 13 shots. Fairmont State held a 7-6 edge in total shots, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. Fairmont State also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks and was very aggressive in the contest, holding a 16-7 advantage in total fouls.

Mackenzie Gillispie had three great scoring chances for the Falcons as the freshman recorded three shots on goal in the win.
Riley Ward and
Kellie Norris also recorded shots for the Falcons.

Taylor Kennedy, the reigning MEC Defensive Player of the Week, recorded her third-consecutive clean sheet in the Fairmont State goal. The freshman turned away both of Frostburg's scoring opportunities to give the Falcons the win.

Fairmont State will return home for three-straight games, starting with a 4 p.m. showdown with West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday at Duvall-Rosier Field.
