Volleyball Takes Down West Liberty, 3-1

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State volleyball got back in the win column with a 3-1 Mountain East Conference victory over West Liberty on Saturday afternoon on Dan Cava Court at Joe Retton Arena.
 
With the victory, Fairmont State moves to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in MEC play. West Liberty falls to 8-9 overall and 1-2 in the league.
 
Julia DiPaola filled the stat sheet for Fairmont State with a team-high 18 kills, 16 digs and four block assists in the win. The Falcons also got nine kills from Emma Mobley, and nine kills and five total blocks from Taylor Wisniewski. Rebecca Feeney also had a big day around the net with a team-high eight blocks assists.
 
Libero Bryce Knapp tallied a team-high 24 digs and also chipped in on offense by passing out a career-high 15 assists. Both of Fairmont State's setters also recorded double-doubles on Saturday afternoon, with Kelsey Moeller totaling 22 assists and 22 digs, and Lily Keber chipping in 14 assists and 15 digs.
 
Fairmont State had a 55-41 advantage in total kills and a 13-10 edge in blocks during the victory.
 
The teams split the first two sets of the match, with Fairmont State winning set one by a score of 25-22, while WLU took set two by the same score, 25-22. The Falcons started slow in set one and faced a 12-2 deficit in the set. West Liberty's early lead was aided by nine attack errors by Fairmont State.
 
With the match even at a set apiece, Fairmont State took set three by a score of 25-21, and wrapped up the win with a 25-17 final score in the fourth set.
 
Morgan Farley, Madison Clayton and Alissa Dickson each recorded nine kills apiece to lead West Liberty on the afternoon.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Tuesday evening with a 7 p.m. MEC match at Frostburg State. The Falcons will return home on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against Alderson Broaddus.
