#17 Cardinals Down Fairmont State, 3-0

WHEELING, W.Va. -- No. 17 Wheeling University proved to be too much for Fairmont State in a 3-0 victory (25-16, 25-22, 25-19) over the Falcons at the McDonough Center on Friday evening in Mountain East Conference action.
 
With the victory, Wheeling improves to 22-3 overall and 10-0 in MEC play. Fairmont State falls to 11-13 overall and 4-6 in league play.
 
Wheeling recorded a .383 hitting percentage in the win and committed just 11 total errors. The Cardinals also held a 7-5 advantage in total blocks.
 
Fairmont State had two players reach double-figures in the match, including a double-double performance from Julia DiPaola with 11 kills and 10 digs. Emma Mobley also chipped in 10 kills and seven digs, and Taylor Wisniewski added seven kills and two block assists for the Falcons. Lily Keber guided the Fairmont State attack with 34 assists.
 
Fairmont State had a .214 hitting percentage in the setback.
 
Cassie Meyer and Breanna Kramer led the Cardinals after recording double-doubles in the win. Meyer finished the afternoon with 21 kills and 16 digs, while Kramer chipped in 17 total kills and 11 digs. Audrey Francis also added 12 digs, and Stephanie Sylvester passed out 51 assists to lead the Wheeling attack.
 
Abby Strait and Allonda Watkins each tallied four blocks apiece for the Cardinals.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against West Liberty at the ASRC.
