Fairmont State Hosts Wesleyan On Senior Night Thursday

The Matchup

- Fairmont State will wrap up the 2019 season Thursday, Nov. 14 at home against West Virginia Wesleyan in a 7 p.m. Mountain East Conference game at Duvall-Rosier Field.

- The game will be broadcasted live on SKY 106.5 FM, with a live HD video stream available at mountaineast.tv/Fairmont. Travis Jones and Duane Cochran will be on the call live from Duvall-Rosier Field.

- The Falcons come into the game both 4-5 overall and in MEC play. Fairmont is currently on a three-game winning streak and has a chance to post its fifth consecutive non-losing season with a win over the Bobcats. The last time Fairmont had five straight non-losing seasons was under Wally Hood from 1984-88.

- Each of Fairmont's victories during its current three-game winning streak have come by at least 24 points, including a 56-27 win at Concord, a 35-7 win over West Liberty on Homecoming, and a 31-7 win over regionally-ranked Urbana last Thursday on the road.

- Wesleyan will bring a 1-9 overall record and a 1-8 MEC mark into Thursday's game. The Bobcats have lost six straight contests. Wesleyan's lone victory this fall was a 33-19 win over Wheeling University on Sept. 28.

- Four of the Bobcats' nine losses this season have come by five points or less.

- Last season Fairmont State's Colin Harvath kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired to help the Falcons escape Buckhannon with a 44-41 win.

- Thursday's game will be the 69th meeting between Fairmont State and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Falcons lead the all-time series 45-22-1. Fairmont State has won its last four meetings with the Bobcats. Wesleyan's last victory in the series came in 2014.

- Fairmont State coach Jason Woodman is 4-2 in games against West Virginia Wesleyan.

- Fairmont State's win over Urbana allowed seventh-year head coach Jason Woodman to move into third place in school history in career victories with 43. He now only trails Doug Sams (53) and Deacon Duvall (125).

Offensive Outlook

- Fairmont State's offense has been productive through nine games. The Falcons are 12th in the nation in NCAA Division II in total offense with an average of 483.3 yards per game and 19th in the country in scoring with an average of 38.9 points per contest.

- Of the top 20 teams ranked in the nation in scoring offense only Fairmont State has a losing record.

- As a team the Falcons are averaging 251.1 yards per game through the air which is 41st in the nation and 232.2 yards per contest on the ground which ranks 22nd in the country.

- Fairmont State ranks seventh in the country and first in the Mountain East Conference in third down percentage (.516).

- Senior quarterback Takwan Crews-Naylor is 27th in the nation in passing yards. Crews-Naylor has completed 129-of-213 passes for 2,215 yards and 20 touchdowns. He's been intercepted nine times. He ranks 28th in the country and third in the league in TD passes. His nine interceptions this fall are the most he's thrown in his career in a single season. Prior to this season Crews-Naylor had only thrown a total of eight interceptions in his career.

- Crews-Naylor is currently fourth in school history in career passing yards (5,425), career passing touchdowns (48), career completions (351) and career total offense (5,610). Crews-Naylor will likely finish his Fairmont State career fourth in all of those statistical categories. Bryan Harman (1998-01) is third all-time at Fairmont State in career passing yards (8,580), career passing touchdowns (64) and career completions (685), while Cooper Hibbs is third in school history in total offense (8,870).

- Fairmont State sophomore running back Tyree Randolph is currently 39th in NCAA Division II and third in the MEC in rushing yards with 839 yards and eight touchdowns on 139 carries. Randolph has rushed for 100 or more yards in three of Fairmont's last four games. He has a total of four 100-or-more rushing yard performances this fall. Randolph has five 100-yard rushing performances in his career.

- Randolph is currently seventh in the country in all-purpose yards per game with an average of 172.4 yards per contest. His 360 all-purpose yards against West Virginia State earlier this season is the second-highest total compiled in an NCAA Division II game this fall.

- Junior running back Khalik Hamlin is currently 52nd in the nation and fourth in the MEC in rushing yards with 775 and six touchdowns on 138 carries. Hamlin has rushed for 100 or more yards in a game 10 times during his career, including three times this fall.

- With his 47 yards at Urbana last Thursday, Hamlin went over 2,000 career rushing yards in a Fairmont State uniform. He needs 112 rushing yards to move into the top 10 in school history.

- Three times this fall Fairmont State has had a pair of running backs rush for 100-or-more yards in the same game. Prior to that, Fairmont State had not had a pair of running backs rush for 100 or more yards in the same game since 2009.

- Junior Javon Hayes leads Fairmont State in receiving this fall with 46 receptions for 834 yards and seven touchdowns. Hayes ranks 29th in the country in receiving yards, is 47th in the nation in touchdown catches and ranks 49th in NCAA Division II in receptions per game (5.1).

- Hayes has 90 career receptions for 1,528 yards and 15 touchdowns. During last Thursday's victory over Urbana, Hayes moved into a tie for 10th in school history with 15 touchdown receptions. Hayes also needs just 114 receiving yards to move into 10th place in Fairmont State history in receiving yards.

- Before last Thursday's game at Urbana, Hayes had posted four straight 100-or-more receiving yard games for the Falcons this fall becoming the first receiver in school history to accomplish that feat in a single season.

- Hayes also became just the seventh receiver in Mountain East Conference history to record four consecutive games of 100-or-more receiving yards in the same season joining Virginia-Wise's James Long and Terrence Younger, Shepherd's Billy Brown and Ryan Feiss, West Virginia State's Quinton Gray and Notre Dame's Mitchel Shegos.

- Shegos holds the MEC record for consecutive games with 100-or-more receiving yards with six in a row during the 2014 season. The other six, including Hayes, all did it just four straight times. No player in the league other than Shegos has done it in five straight games.

- Junior Andre Hall is second on the team and tied for 88th in the country in receiving yards with 627 and six touchdowns on 34 receptions.

- For his career Hall has 100 catches for 1,554 yards and nine touchdowns. He needs 18 more receptions and 87 more yards to move into a tie for 10th place in school history in both of those receiving categories.

Defensive Outlook

- The Falcons' defense held Urbana to a season-low negative-seven (-7) yards rushing and a season-low 214 yards of total offense during last Thursday's 31-7 win over the Blue Knights. Fairmont State also sacked Urbana's tandem of quarterbacks a season-high seven times.

- It marked the second time this season that Fairmont's defense was able to hold an opponent to negative yards rushing in a game. The Falcons limited Concord to negative-19 yards rushing back on Oct. 19. Fairmont's defense is the only defense in the Mountain East Conference to hold two opponents to negative yards rushing in a game this fall.

- Senior linebacker Trevon Shorts and junior defensive end D.J. Adediwura moved into 10th and 11th place in Fairmont State history in career tackles for losses with their performances against Urbana.

- Shorts had 2.5 tackles for losses against the Blue Knights and now has 32.5 career tackles for losses. Adediwura had two TFLs against Urbana and now has 32 career tackles for losses. He's tied for 11th with Ken Oravec, Matt Vance and Jake Spruell.

- Fairmont State's defense ranks third in the 11-team Mountain East Conference in total defense (328.4 yards allowed per game) and 49th in the nation.

- The Falcons are allowing 73.2 yards per game on the ground, which is first in the MEC and sixth in the country.

- Fairmont's pass defense is allowing 255.2 yards per contest which ranks 9th in the MEC and 150th in the country.

- The Falcons are also giving up 28.8 points per game which is fifth in the Mountain East Conference and 97th in NCAA Division II.

- After four straight seasons of being +6 or better Fairmont State is a disappointing -3 in turnover margin this fall, which has the Falcons in sixth place in the MEC in that category. The last time a Fairmont State team finished negative in turnover margin was back in 2014 when the Falcons were -11 and ended the season with a 3-7 overall record.

- Fairmont State only has 18 quarterback sacks this fall. The Falcons rank 5th in the MEC and 83rd in the nation in sacks this season.

- Fairmont State senior linebacker Trevon Shorts leads the Falcons in tackles with 70, including a team-high 41 solo stops and 14.5 for losses.

- Shorts, for his career, now has 194 total tackles, including 115 solo stops. He also has 32.5 career tackles for losses.

- Junior defensive end Chrinovic Mukulu is second on the team in tackles with 39 on the season, followed by true freshman linebacker Alec Solano with 36. Mukulu is second in tackles for losses with 11.5 and is first in quarterback sacks with 4.5.

- Nine different Falcons have interceptions this fall. Junior cornerback Desoto McKenzie, who used to play wide receiver for the Falcons, leads the team with three, while junior cornerback Brandon Ruffin has two. Keyshawn Hailey and Danny Anige each intercepted passes in Fairmont's win over Urbana last week.

Special Teams Outlook

- Fairmont State kicker Colin Harvath earned MEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance against Urbana last Thursday evening.

- Harvath nailed a 30-yard field goal and was a perfect 4-of-4 on PATs in the victory over Urbana. His seven points give him 62 for the season and 151 for his career. Those 151 points allowed Harvath to take sole possession of 10th place in school history in career scoring.

- For his career Harvath is 17-of-25 on field goals and 100-of-101 on extra points. He already ranks fourth in Fairmont State history in career made PATs.

- Fairmont State's Tyree Randolph currently ranks 26th in the country and third in the MEC in combined kick return yardage (591).

- His 25.7 yards per kick return ranks 35th in the country and third in the MEC.
