MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State men's and women's swim teams turned in a combined 15 top 10 finishes and were the highest scoring NCAA Division II programs at the 2019 West Virginia State Games over the weekend in Morgantown.

The Fairmont State men finished runner-up at the event behind host West Virginia University. The Falcons finished with 328.5 points at the end of the meet, well ahead of Salem University (282) in third, and Davis & Elkins (256) in fourth.

The Falcon women finished in third place behind WVU and Marshall. Fairmont State finished the meet with 287 total points, edging out West Virginia Wesleyan who finished with 250.5 points.

On the men's side, the Falcons were paced by a trio of top 10 finished from
Majester Abdul-Jalil,
Ricard Castan and Petro Gaspar. Abdul-Jalil finished in fourth place in the 200 breaststroke to bring home Fairmont's highest individual finish of the weekend. Abdul-Jalil also finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke, and 10
th in the 200 individual medley.

 Castan turned in a top five finish in the 1000 freestyle, before adding a ninth-place finish in the 200 backstroke and 10
th place finish in the 500 freestyle. Gaspar finished in the top 10 in a trio of freestyle events, including a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle, an eighth place finish in the 500 freestyle, and a ninth place finish in the 100 freestyle.

The Falcon men also finished in eighth place in the 4x50 freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.66 to wrap up the meet. Fairmont State finished in the top 10 during two relays this weekend after also finishing fourth in the 200 medley relay on Friday evening.

The Fairmont State women were led by a
Zsofi Bevardi with a trio of top 10 finished during the West Virginia State Games. Bevardi finished fourth in the 500 freestyle, sixth in the 1000 freestyle and eighth in the 200 butterfly.

Emily Gersper also added a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, and a fifth place finish in the 200 breaststroke for the Falcons.
Monique Dias wrapped up the top 10 finished for the Falcons by finishing 10
th in the 200 butterfly.

The Falcon women also wrapped up Saturday's West Virginia State Games with a seventh-place finish in the 4x50 freestyle relay.
Courtney Deem, Bevardi, Dias and Gersper teamed up to turn in a time of 1:45.65 in the event. It was Fairmont State's second top 10 relay of the event, as the Falcons finished in fifth place in the 200 medley relay on Friday evening.
