Falcons Top UC In Overtime, Win MEC North Championship

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's Cameryn Ciresi scored in the 97th minute to give the Falcon women's soccer team its third-consecutive overtime victory on Wednesday afternoon in Charleston.

Ciresi's goal scored low-center past the UC goalkeeper and was assisted by fellow Fairmont State senior Abigail Johnson. Ciresi's goal was her third of the season, and Johnson recorded her fifth assist of the year to give the Falcons the victory.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, the Fairmont State women's soccer team officially locked up the Mountain East Conference North Division Title and earned a bye in next week's conference tournament after Concord topped Notre Dame College, 2-1, in double overtime. The Falcons will host an MEC semifinal on Friday, Nov. 15 at Duvall-Rosier Field. Game time will be announced early next week.

With Wednesday's victory, Fairmont State improved to 11-4-2 overall and 10-2-2 in league play. UC falls to 9-8-1 overall and 7-6-1 in the league.

UC held an 8-4 advantage in total shots on Wednesday afternoon, with both teams recorded just three on-target attempts during the game. Fairmont State held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Fairmont State goalkeeper Taylor Kennedy continues to add to her single-season record, as the true freshman recorded three saves and recorded her 10th shutout of the season on Wednesday evening at UC.

In addition to Ciresi's on-target shot that beat the UC goalkeeper, Fairmont State's Ella Wilson and Katie Doyle both had excellent scoring chances in this evening's overtime win.

Fairmont State will wrap up the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field. Game time is set for 4 p.m. on senior day as the Falcons host Frostburg State. Fairmont State seniors Cameryn Ciresi, Katie Doyle and Abigail Johnson will be honored prior to Saturday's game.
