ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State volleyball team finished strong to pick up a five-set victory over Davis & Elkins (25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-13) on Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference volleyball action at the McDonnell Center in Elkins.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 13-14 overall and 6-7 in MEC play. The Senators fell to 16-8 overall and 9-4 in league play.
Fairmont State had a trio of players reach double-figure kills, led by
Julia DiPaola with 18 kills to go with 18 digs.
Rebecca Feeney also chipped in 16 kills and eight total blocks, and
Amelia Moore added 16 kills and six total blocks in the win.
Taylor Wisniewski also had a big day around the net with nine total blocks.
As a team, Fairmont State held a commanding advantage in blocks with a 19-to-6 advantage in the victory. The Falcons were also aided by 34 Davis & Elkins errors.
Lilianna Keber paced the Falcon offense with 56 assists. Defensively, the Falcons got 29 digs from
Emma Mobley and 19 digs from
Bryce Knapp.
Kaitlyn LaCour and Solei Daniels each reached double-figure kills for the Senators with 25 and 12, respectively.
Fairmont State will return to action on Tuesday evening against Frostburg State. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
