FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Fairmont State took advantage of high percentage shots and got a career-high 37 points from
Rachel Laskody as the Falcons rolled to a 101-87 victory over the reining Mountain East Conference Champion Pioneers of Glenville State.
In the victory the Falcons scored 60 points in the paint and racked up 26 fast-break points against the Glenville State pressure defense. The Falcons shot 52 percent from the field in the victory, including nearly 58 percent in the fourth quarter to close out the Pioneers.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 6-5 overall and 4-2 in MEC play. GSC slips to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the league.
Laskody went 16-of-21 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to record her career-high scoring performance with 37 points. The senior also pulled down 15 rebounds and passed out four assists for the Falcons.
Brooke Kurucz also had a big day for the Falcons with 25 points and seven rebounds, and
Sierra Kotchman added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Kamrin Weimer also reached double-figures for the Falcons with 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Taylor Duplaga also had a big day off the bench with nine points and a team-high five assists.
As a team, the Falcons recorded 24 assists on 38 made baskets in the win.
GSC got a team-high 27 points from Zakiyah Winfield, while Re'Shawna Stone added 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against Wayne State. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at Dan Cava Court inside Joe Retton Arena.
