Weimer, Laskody Lead Fairmont State to MEC Road Win at WVSU

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Kamrin Weimer scored a career-high 26 points and Rachel Laskody stuffed the stat sheet with 25 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Falcons to a 101-87 Mountain East Conference victory over West Virginia State on Saturday afternoon.
 
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in league play. State falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.
 
The Falcons shot nearly 48 percent from the floor, drained 12 three-pointers, and scored 36 second-chance points off 16 offensive rebounds. Fairmont was also aided by 20 points off turnovers in the win.
 
Weimer had a career night by hitting 10-of-17 field goal attempts on the afternoon, including 6-of-10 shots from behind the arc. Laskody went 10-of-18 from the field and set a new career-high with 17 rebounds in the win. The senior pulled down eight of her rebounds on the offensive glass.
 
In addition to Weimer and Laskody, the Falcons also got 13 points from Sierra Kotchman and 12 points, six rebounds and four assists from Presley Tuttle. Gracy Lamm also came off the bench to give the Falcons nine points, three rebounds and four assists.
 
Defensively, the Falcons limited the Yellow Jackets to just 41 percent from the floor and 24 percent from behind the arc (5-of-21). State also turned the ball over 17 times.
 
Charity Shears paced the Yellow Jackets with 26 points, while Chloe Cheresne recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Shears also scored 13 points in just 11 minutes of action.
 
WV State outscored the Falcons 52-to-28 in the paint and also held a 48-to-47 rebounding advantage.
 
Fairmont State shot the ball extremely well in the opening half, shooting over 51 percent from the field and leading by 14 at the break. The Falcons quickly pushed that halftime advantage to 20 at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Tuesday evening at Concord. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Carter Center.
 
Note: The Falcons scored over 100 points in a game for the first time since January 10, 2017, when Fairmont State picked up a 101-64 win over West Virginia State at Joe Retton Arena.
