FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After leading by as many as 17 points in the first half, Concord held off a late push by Fairmont State to pick up a 79-67 win in Mountain East Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
Concord led 39-22 at the half after holding Fairmont State to just four points in the second quarter, but the Falcons used a strong third quarter to cut the deficit to just seven. Fairmont State would get as close as four (55-51) at the 8:41 mark, but Concord would go on a 13-5 run over the next three minutes to stretch the lead back to double-digits for good at 68-56.
The win helps Concord improve to 19-5 overall and 14-4 in Mountain East Conference play. Fairmont State falls to 10-14 overall and 7-11 in league play.
Concord shot 50 percent from the field and went 9-of-21 from behind the arc in the win. The Mountain Lions also held a 39-27 advantage on the glass and recorded 16 assists on 30 made baskets.
Rachel Laskody scored a team-high 19 points to go with five rebounds and two assists in the setback.
Sierra Kotchman also chipped in 17 points, and
Brooke Kurucz had 13 to give the Falcons a trio of double-figure scorers.
CU got 18 points apiece from Andreanna Pool and Maggie Guynn. Emily Boothe was 5-of-8 from the field and finished with 14 points, and Riley Fitzwater had 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Falcons will return to action on Thursday evening at the University of Charleston. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
