CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston shot nearly 57 percent from the field and proved to be too much for Fairmont State in an 89-58 setback on Thursday evening at the Innovation Center in Charleston.
With the victory, Charleston improves to 20-5 overall and 15-4 in Mountain East Conference play. Fairmont State dropped its third-consecutive game and is now 10-15 overall and 7-12 in the league.
Sierra Kotchman led the Falcons on the offensive end of the floor with 22 points on 9-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 from behind the arc. The Falcons also got 12 points and six rebounds from
Rachel Laskody, and nine points from
Josie Daugherty off the bench.
The Falcons shot 41 percent from the field, but struggled from behind the arc making just 5-of-13 attempts (38.5%).
Raziyah Farrington led the Golden Eagles in the victory with 34 points and five assists. Farrington made all of her 16 field goal attempts in the victory. UC also got 18 points and 10 rebounds from Anna Hayton, and 13 points from Brooklyn Pannell.
Charleston held a 36-24 advantage on the glass and also passed out 20 assists on 35 made baskets.
Fairmont State will return to action on Sunday afternoon at West Virginia State. Tip is set for 2:30 p.m.
