Converse Rallies Past Fairmont State In Team Event

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Converse edged Fairmont State in the final two events to rally past the Falcons, 269.015-268.805, on Saturday afternoon in a top-10 matchup at Joe Retton Arena.
 
The win helps Converse improve to 2-0 on the year. Fairmont State slips to 2-1 on the year.
 
Fairmont State scored a 9.50 in the compulsory toss, and a 9.45 in the compulsory pyramid to open up a 37.25-35.80 lead after one event.
 
Converse closed the gap in a close acro event, scoring a 9.45 or higher in each of the three heats to win the event by a 28.85-28.40 margin.
 
Fairmont State led 95.25-93.75 at the half after recording a perfect score in the open pyramid for the third-straight week. The Falcons also scored a 9.85 in the inversion pyramid, and a 9.75 in the synchronized pyramid to hold a 29.60-29.10 advantage in the event.
 
The Falcons won their third event of the day in the toss (26.95-26.80) after recording a 9.25 in the open toss, and a 9.20 in the 450 salto.
 
Converse edged Fairmont State in the tumbling event despite three standout performances in the individual tumbling passes, including a 9.50 in the aerial pass, a 9.575 in the six-element pass, and a 9.650 in the open pass. Fairmont State scored just a 7.40 in the quad pass after an injury that forced a substitution later in team event.
 
The Valkyries outscored Fairmont State 94.29-93.03 in the team event, which proved to be enough for the win.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Friday, March 15 when they travel to Hawaii Pacific during spring break.
