Kotchman Nets 30 as Fairmont State Rallies Past Urbana

URBANA, Ohio -- Sierra Kotchman scored a season-high 30 points to lead Fairmont State past Urbana, 75-60, on Thursday evening at the Grimes Center. Kotchman score 22 of her 30 points in the second half as Fairmont State rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit.
 
With the win, Fairmont State improves to 9-12 overall and 6-9 in Mountain East Conference play. The road win is just the second of the season for the Falcons. Urbana falls to 2-17 overall and 2-13 in league play.
 
After Urbana opened up a 39-28 halftime lead after shooting over 50 percent from the field in the opening half, Fairmont State outscored the Blue Knights 29-9 during the third quarter to take control of the game. Kotchman scored 17 points in the second quarter to anchor Fairmont State's comeback.
 
With Fairmont State leading 57-48 entering the fourth and final quarter, the Falcons scored the first nine points of the period to open up a 66-48 advantage with 7:41 remaining. From that point, Fairmont State led by double-digits the rest of the way before settling for the 75-60 win.
 
Kotchman went 11-of-18 from the field, 3-of-7 from three and also pulled down five rebounds in the win. Rachel Laskody finished the game with her sixth double-double performance of the season with 20 points and 10 boards. Laskody has now scored 20-point or more in five of the last seven games, including two double-doubles. Brooke Kurucz also reached double-figures with 11 points to go with five boards.
 
The Falcons shot 45 percent from the field in the win, including nearly 52 percent in the second half.
 
Sylvia Hudson paced Urbana with 15 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort. Erin Morrow also chipped in 13 for the Blue Knights.
 
Urbana shot just 29 percent from the field in the second half, making just 7-of-24 field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes of play.
 
The Falcons will return to action on Saturday at Notre Dame College. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at Murphy Gymnasium.
