Falcons Impress During 2019 Season Opener

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- The sixth-ranked Fairmont State Acrobatics & Tumbling team rolled to a 270.165-241.430 victory over West Liberty in the first-ever Mountain East Conference meet between the two programs on Saturday afternoon at the ASRC.
 
The Falcons swept each of the six events by at least two full points and also recorded their first perfect-10 of the season in the open pyramid heat. In all, Fairmont State recorded a 9.50 or higher in 11 different heats during the meet.
 
Fairmont State jumped in front early by recording scores of 9.60 and 9.70 in the compulsory pyramid and toss heats. Fairmont added to its lead in the acro event with a score of 9.90 in the five-element acro, and a score of 9.75 in the seven-element acro.
 
Perhaps the most impressive event of the day for the Falcons was the pyramid event, as Fairmont State received just 0.40 in dedications in each of the three heats combined. Fairmont State scored a 9.70 in the inversion pyramid, a 9.90 in the synch pyramid, and a 10.0 in the open pyramid. Fairmont State led 95.85-86.50 at halftime.
 
To begin the second half, Fairmont State recorded a 9.55 in the 450 Salto Toss, and a 9.50 in the open toss to pick up another convincing event victory.
 
The Falcons opened the tumbling event with a 9.30 in the duo pass, before recording three impressive scores in the individual heats, including a 9.55 in the aerial pass, a 9.375 in the six-element pass, and a 9.750 in the open pass.
 
Fairmont State closed out its performance with a score of 92.04 in the team event.
 
The Falcons outscored West Liberty in each of the 19 heats on the afternoon.
 
Fairmont State will return to action on Friday evening at Joe Retton Arena when Concordia (Wis.) comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. meet.
