Stout Records Shutout as Fairmont State Splits With Glenville State

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State split a twinbill with Glenville State on Saturday afternoon at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex to move to 10-6 (1-1 MEC) on the season.
 
Michael Stout (2-1) threw a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts in game one as the Falcons edged Glenville 1-0.
 
Tyler Skidmore reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth inning and drove in Kevin Ayala to provide the winning run for the Falcons. Ayala and Joe LaRocca provided the only hits for the Falcons as both pitching staff's impressed on Saturday afternoon.
 
In game two, Glenville State scattered three runs to blank the Falcons and pick up its second win of the season.
 
Carter Boswell drove in the first run of the game in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Trevon Smith. Hunter Brown added the second Pioneer run in the top of the third on an RBI single to right field that plated Colby Werry to give GSC an unearned run.
 
Werry wrapped the scoring in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to right field to make the final score 3-0.
 
The Falcons once again struggled at the plate by scattering three hits during the game. Ayala, Tyler Hill and Nick Mann each recorded singles for the Falcons.
 
Will Brown (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season on the hill for the Falcons. Brown allowed just two earned runs on four hits, and struck out four batters. Andrue Hughart (1-2) picked up his first win of the season for GSC after allowing just three singles and striking out six.
 
Fairmont State will host West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at Bridgeport Recreation Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
