Fairmont State, Notre Dame Split Saturday Doubleheader

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Fairmont State's Katlynn Foltz drove in two runs on a double in the top of the third inning to help the Falcons pick up a 2-1 win over Notre Dame College in game two on Saturday afternoon at Normandy Field. NDC took game one of the doubleheader 7-3 to earn the split.

Fairmont State is now 9-9 overall and 4-2 in Mountain East Conference play. NDC falls to 10-10 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Foltz's double was the only extra-base hit of the game for the Falcons as Fairmont State recorded just four hits in the pitching dual. Haley McDaniel, Olivia Dunn and Meadow Anderson also added singles for the Falcons in game two.

Kadi Cosgrove improved to 1-1 on the season after allowing just one run on six hits in the win. Cosgrove also struck out four batters on the afternoon. Notre Dame's Taylor Olson (5-5) also put together a strong pitching performance in the losing effort, allowing just two runs on four hits.

Game 1

In the first game of the day, Notre Dame scored seven unanswered runs to rally from an early 3-0 deficit to earn the win.

An error in the top of the first inning helped the Falcons get on the board first, as Kaylee Anderson scored during Foltz's ground ball that was mishandled by the NDC first baseman. Cosgrove made the score 2-0 on a double down the left field line that scored Stubbs from third during the next at-bat.

The Falcons took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Carly Clarke that scored Taylor Wells from third base.

Hannah Absalom (7-2) had her seven-game winning streak snapped in the first game of the day, as the senior went a complete game, allowing seven runs on 12 hits. She did strike out five batters on the afternoon.

Fairmont State will return to action on Sunday at 11 a.m. against Urbana in MEC action.
