URBANA, Ohio -- Fairmont State softball wrapped up a 3-1 weekend by sweeping Urbana University, 3-0, 7-5, in Mountain East Conference action on Sunday afternoon at Blue Knight Field in Urbana.

With the doubleheader sweep, the Falcons are now 11-9 overall and 6-2 in MEC play. Urbana falls to 2-22 overall and 0-8 in the league.

Game 1
Â
In the first game of the day,
Hannah Absalom picked up her eighth win of the season by shutting out the Blue Knight offense. Absalom ended the game by allowing just six hits with two strikeouts and just one walk. Of the 27 batters she faced, 11 grounded out.

Offensively, the Falcons broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when
Olivia Dunn hit a groundout that allowed
Haley McDaniel to cross home plate.
Jenny Stubbs gave the Falcons some breathing room in the top of the seventh on an RBI single to center field that scored
Kaylee Andersen and Dunn from second and third, respectively.

Stubbs went 2-of-4 in the game, while Dunn recorded the only extra-base hit for the Falcons on a double.

Game 2
Â
In game two, Fairmont State outscored Urbana 4-2 in eighth inning to earn the win in extra innings.

With the scored tied 3-3 after the seven scheduled innings, Fairmont State jumped in front by a 7-3 advantage following a four-run eighth inning.

The inning was sparked by a sacrifice fly into right field by
Abbey Ammons that brought home Stubbs from third. During the next at-bat,
Andie Baughman drove a double up the middle that allowed Becka Sullivan and Katlyn Foltz to scored from second and third.

Jessie Weaver wrapped up the scoring for the Falcons in the inning by hitting a double into left field that brought Baughman home from second.

Urbana plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth, but
Darby Petersen recorded the final out of the game with a strikeout to clinch the win for the Falcons.

The Falcons recorded 12 hits in the win, getting two hits apiece from McDaniel, Stubbs, Baughman and Weaver.
Kadi Cosgrove hit a solo home run in the top of the second, and Baughman recorded a pair of doubles to lead Fairmont State at the plate in the win.

In addition to her home run, Cosgrove also pitched six innings, allowing three runs on 12 hits, and striking out three. Petersen earned the win after pitching the final two innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, and striking out two batters in the bottom of the eight inning to hold off the Blue Knights.

The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Seton Hill. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. for the non-conference doubleheader.
