FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State and West Liberty split a pair of low-scoring Mountain East Conference contests on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field during the Falcons' 2019 home opener.

In the first game of the day,
Hannah Absalom picked up her 10
th victory of the season, improving to 10-2 on the year. The senior pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out four batters in the victory.

Andie Baughman provided the only runs of the game for the Falcons when her single brought home
Heidi Hormell and Absalom in the bottom of the second inning.

Baughman and
Kadi Cosgrove provided the only hits of the game for the Falcons. In fact, the teams combined for just seven hits in game one, with West Liberty's Allie Cook providing the only extra-base hit of the day.

In game two, the Falcons were held to just one hit, a double by
Jessie Weaver, as West Liberty picked up a 3-0 victory to earn the split.

West Liberty's Anna Paterson (4-1) and Taylor Bonnett (S, 2) combined for the one-hit shutout for the Hilltoppers, as the duo combined for just four strikeouts and one walk.

Cosgrove (1-2) was tagged with the loss in game two after a solid performance for the Falcons. The junior allowed just three runs on five hits and struck out three batters.

With two runners on in the top of the third inning, West Liberty's Sydney Bennington hit a 3-run home run to provide the only runs of the game for the Hilltoppers in the 3-0 victory.

Fairmont State will return to action against Wheeling Jesuit on Monday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
