BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- After suffering a 1-0 setback in game one of the doubleheader, Fairmont State scored 4 runs in the fifth inning of game two to roll to a 5-1 win and earn a split during a Mountain East Conference doubleheader at Cavalier Field.

As a result of the split, Fairmont State moves to 20-18 overall and 14-10 in MEC play. UVa-Wise is now 17-18 overall and 11-9 in league play.

In game two, Fairmont State got on the board in the top of the first when
Kadi Cosgrove hit an RBI single that brought home
Kaylee Andersen for the first run of the game.

With the score still 1-0 heading into the fifth inning, the Falcons added four runs to take control of the game.
Carly Clarke got the scoring started by driving in a run on a groundout to the shortstop. Andersen added a two-RBI single, and
Meadow Anderson added an RBI single to left field later in the inning to put the Falcons up 5-0.

UVa-Wise drove in one run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 5-1.

Darby Petersen improved to 4-4 on the year after picking up the victory for the Falcons in game two. Petersen allowed just one run on five hits and struck out five in the win.

Courtney Worcester went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Falcons, while Andersen went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

In the first game of the day, the teams combined for just three total hits and the only run scored in the game was a solo home run by UVa-Wise Taylor Creasey. In fact, Creasey's home run was the only hit of the game for the Cavs.

Clarke and Cosgrove provided the only hits of the game for the Falcons.

Hannah Absalom (12-7) turned in a solid effort for the Falcons, allowing just one run, one hit and striking out four. Absalom also walked just one batter.

Raychel Lapallo improved to 8-7 on the season after recording a two-hit shutout for the Cavs.

Fairmont State will return to action on Thursday afternoon at Wheeling Jesuit. Opening pitch is set for 3 p.m.
