Fairmont State Rolls In Game 2, Splits With Urbana

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After being edged 3-2 in extra innings in game one, Fairmont State rolled to an 11-3 victory over Urbana in game two on Saturday to earn a doubleheader split in MEC action.
 
Game 1

In game one, Fairmont State took an early 1-0 lead when Courtney Worcester hit an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the first to bring home Kaylee Andersen.
 
Urbana tied the game in the top of the second when Mykee Holtz hit a solo home run to left center. The Blue Knights took the lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI single to right field by Mackenzie Frantz.
 
Andersen knotted the game at 2-2 and eventually forced extra innings after hitting an RBI single to center field to bring home Olivia Dunn in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Mia Smallwood provided the game-winning win for Urbana on an RBI single in the top of the eighth.
 
Hannah Absalom pitched a complete game for the Falcons, allowing three runs on nine hits and striking out four. Absalom suffered just her fourth loss of the season in the defeat.
 
Fairmont State scattered six hits in the game one setback, getting a 2-for-4 performance from Kaylee Andersen at the plate. Andersen and Worcester both drove in runs for the Falcons. Kadi Cosgrove recorded the only extra-base hit of the game for Fairmont State with a double.
 
Game 2
 
After falling behind by a 3-0 margin in the top of the first inning, Fairmont State scored 11 unanswered runs to pick up the win in game two, 11-3, in five innings.
 
Fairmont State scored runs in each of the five innings in the game, including four runs in the first and four runs in the third inning.
 
Fairmont State was led by a 3-for-3 performance with two RBIs and a run scored from Haley McDaniel at the plate. Meadow Anderson, Katlynn Foltz, Worcester and Andersen each turned in 2-for-3 performances at the plate.
 
McDaniel, Foltz, and Worcester each recorded triples for the Falcons.
 
In addition to her hitting performance, McDaniel also picked up the win in the circle for the Falcons, allowing just three runs on six hits in five innings of work. McDaniel moved to 2-3 on the year.

Fairmont State will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Notre Dame College in an MEC doubleheader at Duvall-Rosier Field.
