Falcons Drop Two On Day One of Marauder Clash

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. --
Fairmont State dropped a pair of matches against PSAC opponents on Friday afternoon during the opening day of the Marauder Clash on the campus of Millersville University.
 
In the first match of the day on Friday afternoon, Fairmont State fell in straight sets against West Chester (25-21, 25-14, 25-19). In the second match of the day against host Millersville, Fairmont State dropped a heartbreaking five-setter (20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12) – the third fifth-set loss of the season for the Falcons.
 
The Falcons struggles to get their offense going against the Golden Rams, recording just 37 kills and tallying 21 errors in the setback.
 
Senior middle hitter Rebecca Feeney led the Falcons with a team-high nine kills to go with three total blocks. The Falcons also got eight kills apiece from Julia DiPaola and Amelia Moore. DiPaola also recorded a team-high 10 digs against the Golden Rams, while libero Sydney McCoy tallied nine digs.
 
Kelsey Moeller racked up 15 assists against West Chester, while Lily Keber added 14.
 
A complete box score from the West Chester match was not immediately available on Friday evening, but will be posted in the near future.
 
In Friday evening's matchup against Millersville, Fairmont State held a 20-8 advantage in blocks and outhit the Maunders by a slim margin (.199 to .169).
 
Fairmont State had four players reach double-figure kills in the match, led by DiPaola with a team-high 21 kills to go with 20 digs. Moore also chipped in 13 kills, while Feeney racked up 12 kills and a team-best 10 total blocks (3 solo). Keara Lewis also recorded a double-double performance for the Falcons with 10 kills and 18 digs.
 
In addition to Feeney's double-digit blocking performance, the Falcons also got eight total blocks from Taylor Wisniewski, five from Emma Mobley, and four apiece from DiPaola and Moore.
 
McCoy finished the match with 20 digs and four assists to lead the Falcons defensively. Moeller once again led the Falcons in assists with 27. Keber also chipped in 22 assists and 15 digs to record a double-double.
 
The Falcons will look to rebound on Saturday with two more matches to close out the Murderer Clash. Fairmont State will return to the court tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Roberts Wesleyan. The Falcons will wrap up the day with a 1 p.m. match against Virginia Union.
