Fairmont State Takes Down Shippensburg In Four Sets

Falcons Split Day 2 at Atlantic Region Crossover

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Fairmont State split day two at the Atlantic Region Crossover event on Saturday afternoon at Wheeling University to wrap up a 2-2 weekend. The Falcons opened Saturday with a 3-1 win over Shippensburg, before falling in a heartbreaking five-setter against Slippery Rock on Saturday evening.
 
Follow the weekend's action, the Falcons are currently 6-6 overall heading into conference play next weekend.
 
In Saturday's win over Shippensburg, the Falcons got 12 kills and two block assists from Amelia Moore, and 11 kills and 18 digs from Julia DiPaola. Madison Chapman also chipped in a career-high nine kills and Rebecca Feeney added eight kills and a team-high three blocks during the victory.
 
Fairmont State had a 61-46 advantage in total kills and an 8-5 advantage in aces during the victory. Shippensburg held an 8-5 advantage in total blocks.
 
Bryce Knapp, who made her first start of the season at the libero position, recorded 17 digs in the victory. Setter Lily Keber racked up a double-double with 32 assists and 10 digs, while Kelsey Moeller passed out 20 assists.
 
In addition to Knapp's 17 digs, the freshman also recorded four service aces against the Raiders.

In the fourth match of the weekend against Slippery Rock, the Falcons had three players reach double-figures, led by Emma Mobley with 16 kills. The Falcons also got 12 kills apiece from Moore and Feeney. DiPaola and Chapman also chipped in on the Fairmont State offensive attack with eight and seven kills, respectively.
 
Feeney also recorded a team-high five total blocks in the match as the Falcons held an 8-6 advantage in team blocks during the setback.
 
Keber (14), DiPaola (13), Chapman (12) and Knapp (12) all reached double-figures in digs against The Rock. Keber and Moeller guided the Fairmont State offense with 28 and 25 assists, respectively.
 
Statistically the match was evenly contested with both teams recording 62 kills in the match. However, Fairmont State committed 26 errors in the setback, compared to just 21 for Slippery Rock. Fairmont State held an advantage in both blocks (8-6) and acres (7-5) during the five-set match.
 
The Falcons led 2-0 following a 25-23 victory in set one and a 25-19 victory in set two. However, SRU rallied to win three-straight sets to pick up the win.
 
Fairmont State will return to action next Friday at Notre Dame College. The MEC matchup is set for a 7 p.m. opening serve.
