Falcons Open MEC Play During Ohio Road Trip, Drop Matches at NDC and Urbana

URBANA, Ohio -- The Fairmont State volleyball team opened Mountain East Conference play over the weekend by taking its Ohio road trip with matches at Notre Dame College and Urbana University.
 
The Falcons opened the weekend by dropping a 3-1 match against the 10-4 Falcons of Notre Dame on Friday evening (25-17, 25-20, 13-25, 25-21). On the second stop of the road trip, Fairmont State fell in straight sets against Urbana (25-15, 25-20, 25-13).
 
Following this weekend's action to open MEC play, Fairmont State moves to 6-8 overall and 0-2 in the league.
 
On Friday against Notre Dame, the Falcons got a team-high 14 kills and two blocks from freshman Amelia Moore, and 11 kills and six total blocks from Rebecca Feeney. Keara Lewis and Julia DiPaola each chipped in nine kills apiece, while Emma Mobley added eight for the Falcons.
 
Libero Bryce Knapp and DiPaola each recorded a team-high 19 digs in the setback, while Lewis also chipped in double-digit digs with 13.
 
Lily Keber guided the Fairmont State offense with 30 assists, while Kelsey Moeller chipped in 20 in four sets of action.
 
Notre Dame held a 10-9 advantage in total blocks and a 5-2 edge in aces. Fairmont State had a 58-51 advantage in total kills, but Notre Dame benefited from 24 Fairmont State errors on the night.

On Saturday at Urbana, the Falcons got eight kills and two blocks assists from Feeney, while Moore chipped in seven kills during the match. Mobley, DiPaola and Lewis each recorded four kills each against the Blue Knights.
 
Knapp tallied a team-high nine digs in the match, while Keber and Moeller paced the Fairmont State attack with 13 and 10 assists, respectively.

Mobley recorded a team-high three blocks at Urbana.
 
Statistically, Urbana held a 45-30 advantage in total kills and committed just 10 errors on the evening. The Blue Knights also held an 8-5 advantage in total blocks and a 4-3 edge in aces.

Fairmont State will return to action on Friday evening against 21st-ranked Wheeling University. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
