FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State earned its second-consecutive Mountain East Conference shutout with a 2-0 victory over West Liberty on Sunday evening at Duvall-Rosier Field.

With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in MEC play. WLU falls to 1-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.

Ella Wilson put the Falcons on the board first in the 21
st minute with a goal from eight yards out into the upper right corner of the goal. The shot was set up by a pass from
Kellie Norris who was crossing in front of the goal.

The 1-0 lead remained intact until
Mackenzie Gillispie provided some breathing room in the 87
th minute when she scored from in the box following a cross by
Abigail Johnson. The shot came from seven yards out and beat the goalkeeper in the lower right corner of the goal.

Gillispie's second half goal was her third of the season, while Wilson netted her second goal of the season in the opening half. Norris and Johnson each recorded their first assists of the season in the victory over the Hilltoppers.

Statistically West Liberty held a 10-9 advantage in total shots, including a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Both teams attempted three corner kicks and the game featured just 13 total fouls (7 FAIR, 6 WLU).

Taylor Kennedy recorded her second shutout victory of the season after recording six saves in the win. Kennedy also made four saves on Wednesday afternoon as the Falcons shutout Urbana 2-0 on the road.

In the three meetings against West Liberty during the 2018 season, Fairmont State was held without a goal in each game. The teams battled to a pair a scoreless draws, and West Liberty defeated Fairmont State 1-0 on the road last season.

Fairmont State will return to action on Thursday night at Frostburg State. Opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
