ELKINS, W.Va. -- Fairmont State struggled on the offensive end and couldn't recover from a -38 rebounding margin on Wednesday evening, dropping a 64-48 final against Davis & Elkins in Mountain East Conference action at the McDonnell Center.

The Falcons shot just 34.4 percent from the field, including a 3-of-22 performance (13.6 %) from behind the arc in the setback. In addition, the Senators outrebounded the Falcons 58-20 and held a 24-2 advantage in second-chance points.

With the setback, Fairmont State falls to 9-8 overall and 6-5 in the league. D&E improves to 4-13 overall and 3-8 in MEC play.

Fairmont's 48-point scoring performance is a new season-low for the Falcons, and is the lowest point total for the women's basketball program since Nov. 30, 2016 at Wheeling Jesuit (L, 48-53).

The Falcons had three players reach double-figures on the evening, including a team-high 14 points from
Brooke Kurucz.
Rachel Laskody also added 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, and
Sierra Kotchman finished the evening with 11 points.

Fairmont State did force Davis & Elkins into 24 turnovers on the evening, but turned them into just 12 points on the offensive end.

Three players reached double-figures for the Senators, including Jamiyah Johnson with 11 points and 15 rebounds to record a double-double. D&E also got 11 points apiece from Jay Kilpatrick and Peyton Mohler. Sydney Nestor just missed a double-double performance with eight points and 11 boards.

Fairmont State will return to action on Sunday afternoon against Frostburg State. Tip is set for 2 p.m. at Allegany College of Maryland.
