CUMBERLAND, Md. – Fairmont State drained 11 three-pointers and pulled away late to pick up a 92-70 victory over Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon at Bob Kirk Arena on the campus of Allegany College of Maryland.
With the victory, Fairmont State improves to 10-8 overall and 7-5 in the Mountain East Conference. Frostburg drops to 3-15 overall and 2-10 in the league.
Fairmont State outscored Frostburg 22-14 in the second quarter to grab a 10-point lead at the half, and maintained a lead of at least nine-points through the second half of play. The Falcons also outscored the Bobcats 21-12 in the fourth quarter and pushed their lead to as many as 22, which became the final margin of victory.
Fairmont State shot 43 percent from the field in the victory and knocked down 33-of-39 attempts from the free throw line (84.6%). The Falcons also forced 21 Frostburg turnovers and held a 28-11 advantage in points off turnovers.
Frostburg shot just 39 percent from the field, despite holding a 36-22 scoring advantage in the paint.
Three players reached double-figures for the Falcons, led by
Sierra Kotchman with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Presley Tuttle also chipped in 18 points and six rebounds off the bench, while added 10 points and seven rebounds.
Kamrin Weimer,
Brooke Kurucz and
Katy Darnell also contributed nine points apiece.
Amanda Emory scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Bobcats. Victoria Diggs also chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds.
The teams combined for 56 personal fouls and 66 free throws were attempted in the game.
Fairmont State will return to action on Wednesday evening at Dan Cava Court inside Joe Retton Arena when West Virginia State comes to town for an MEC contest. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
