FAIRMONT, W.Va. –
Majester Abdul-Jalil and
Emily Gersper both broke Feaster Center Pool records as Fairmont State rolled to a pair of senior day victories over West Virginia Tech on Friday evening. The Fairmont State women picked up a 167-45 victory, while the Falcon men were victorious by a 141-107 margin.
Abdul-Jalil turned a record time of 2:10.56 in the 200 breaststroke, while Gersper broke the 100 breaststroke pool record with a time of 1:06.31 on senior day.
On the women's side, Fairmont State turned in 11 first-place finishes, including three victories from Gersper and two apiece from
Zsofi Bevardi and
Courtney Deem. Bevardi was victorious in the 200 backstroke and 1000 free, while Deem was first to touch the wall in the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Monique Dias also won the 200 butterfly event with a time of 2:25.24, and
Eulalia Castan took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:10.96.
The Falcons women also swept the relay events (200 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay).
Prior to the meet, Fairmont State honored its five female seniors, who competed for the final time at Fairmont State's Feaster Center. The Falcons' seniors include
Becka Crandall,
Monique Dias,
Emily Gersper,
Lexi Rowe and
Sierra Wright.
On the men's side, Fairmont State swept the relay events and took first place in six of the individual events.
Pedro Gaspar led the way for the Falcon men with three first-place finishes, including the 200 backstroke, 200 IM and 1000 freestyle. Abdul-Jalil was also victorious in the 100 breaststroke before turning in his record swim in the 200 breaststroke.
Ricard Castan was also first to touch the wall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58:28.
Fairmont State will now prepare for the GMAC/MEC Championships, which will be held on Feb. 12-15 in Canton, Ohio.
