Fairmont State Improves to 3-0 With Tri-Meet Victory at Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State acrobatics & tumbling team improved to 3-0 on the season after picking up a tri-meet victory over West Virginia Wesleyan and Urbana on Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action in Buckhannon. Fairmont State scored a meet-high 266.510, while Urbana went 1-1 in the meet with a score of 251.120. Wesleyan took third in the tri-meet with a score of 247.935.
 
Fairmont State's performance was highlighted by a pair of perfect 10.0 scores in the five-element and six-element acro heats. In all, Fairmont State had seven scores of 9.50 or higher during Saturday's victory to take control early.
 
In the compulsory event, Fairmont State jumped out to an early lead with scores of 9.60 in the pyramid heat and 9.65 in the toss heat. Fairmont State added to its lead in the acro event after recording perfect scores in each of the first two heats – the team's first perfect scores of the season.
 
Fairmont State wrapped up the first half with a score of 28.60 in the pyramid event, turning in a score of 9.65 in the inversion, and a 9.80 in the open pyramid.
 
The Falcons had a score of 92.00 at halftime, compared to 88.85 for West Virginia Wesleyan, and 88.10 for Urbana.
 
After a narrow victory for Fairmont State in the toss event to open the second half, the Falcons held over a three-point advantage in the tumbling event to gain some separation in the meet standings. Fairmont's tumbling event was highlighted by a 9.50 in the open pass, and a 9.375 in the aerial pass. The Falcons also opened the tumbling event with a 9.10 out of 9.60 in the duo tumbling pass.
 
Fairmont State also outscored Wesleyan and Urbana in team event to close out the victory.
 
Fairmont State will now prepare for a dual meet against Davis & Elkins on Thursday evening. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
