Fairmont State Rolls To Road Win Over Wheeling, 95-60

Falcons shot 54 percent from the field in the win

WHEELING, W.Va. -- Fairmont State opened the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back as the Falcons earned a blowout win over Wheeling University, 95-60, on Saturday afternoon at the McDonough Center.
 
Fairmont State shot a blistering 54 percent from the field and went 11-of-21 from behind the arc (52%) to improve to 3-1 (3-1 MEC) on the season.

Dale Bonner led all scorers with 22 points for Fairmont State. Isaiah Sanders also had a big day with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Cole VonHandorf also chipped in 12 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Przemyskaw Golek rounded out four double-figure scorers for the Falcons with 10 points to go with six rebounds.
 
Fifteen total players saw action for the Falcons on Saturday afternoon, including 10 players that hit the scoresheet. Kyle Whippen saw his first action of the season for the Falcons on Saturday, scoring nine points following a 7-of-7 performance from the free throw line.
 
Fairmont State continued to break open a lopsided game in the second half by shooting 18-of-30 from the field (60.0%) and 5-of-8 from behind the arc (62.5%) in the final 20 minutes of action. The Falcons also had 15 assists on 33 made baskets and outrebounded the Cardinals, 46-37.

Jordan Reid had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals (0-2, 0-2 MEC). Jay Gentry scored 15 and Jarett Haines added 14 to give Wheeling a trio of double-figure scorers.
 
Wheeling managed just a 31 percent shooting performance on the afternoon, including just 7-of-29 in the opening half (24.1%). Wheeling recorded just five assists in the game and also shot just 2-of-17 from behind the arc (11.8%).
 
Fairmont State will now prepare for a trip to Notre Dame College on Wednesday evening. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Murphy Gymnasium.
