FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Alderson Broaddus used a big fourth quarter to hold off Fairmont State and picked up a 90-81 road win over the Falcons on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
The Battlers used an efficient offense shooting 55 percent from the field and a dominating performance on the glass out-rebounding Fairmont State by 18 (51-33) in the win. ABU shot over 60 percent from the field in the second half.
In the game, the Battlers scored over half their points in the paint with a 46-38 advantage scoring in the post.
Fairmont State struggled from the field most of the afternoon, shooting just 35.5 percent from the field (27-76) and 5-of-24 from three (20.8%).
The Falcons did force ABU into 28 turnovers on the defensive end, including 15 steals. Fairmont State scored 29 of its point off turnovers, including 22 on the fast break.
Sierra Kotchman led all scorers with 25 points in the game for Fairmont State (1-4, 1-4 MEC).
Alyssa DeAngelo also had a big day for the Falcons with 19 points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals.
Jertaya Hall also netted 14 and
Katy Darnell had 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three assists.
Iyahnna Williams scored 17 points and had seven rebounds for ABU (3-3, 3-3 MEC). Celeste Walters and Madeline Moyer each scored 14, and Saniya Dorsey tossed in 13. Kristy Galea chipped in 12 to give the Battlers five double-figure scorers.
Fairmont State will return to action on Monday evening against Davis & Elkins. Tip is set for 6 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
