FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State women's soccer picked up a 3-1 victory over the visiting Falcons of Notre Dame College in Mountain East Conference play.
Fairmont State improved their record to 6-6-2 on the season and 6-5-2 in MEC play. Notre Dame is now 4-7-3 and 4-6-3 in conference action.
The Falcons of Fairmont had quality chances leading to their goal in the 17th minute as
Angelina Kaylor finished the ball into the back of the net after
Kiera Kuzinski's shot was saved by NDC's goalkeeper.
Kuzinski added the go-ahead goal in the 32nd minute off a free kick taken by
Tristen Bright and the Falcons entered the halftime break with the two-goal advantage.
In the start of the second half, Fairmont State maintained mucj of the possession but were unable to net another goal in the early stages of the half. Notre Dame made the match interesting scoring in the 78th minute as Madison Marino finished a cross from Louisa Follert to draw the contest to 2-1 in favor of Fairmont.
Fairmont State rallied in less than 30 seconds with a goal of their own from
Jessica Schneider off a breakaway and Schneider collected her fifth goal of the season.
Taylor Kennedy had seven quality stops for women's soccer in the match with Notre Dame's Jordan Pasalqua notching 10 saves on the evening.
Fairmont State outshot NDC 18-11 on the night with an advantage on shots on goal, 13-8. Kuzinski put five shots on goal for Fairmont and
Alyssa Weaver and Bright chipped in two shots on target each.
The Falcon women's soccer team (6-6-2, 6-5-2 MEC) are back at Duvall-Rosier Field on Sunday afternoon for a match with West Virginia State (10-4-1, 9-3-1 MEC). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. with Senior Day festivities being held prior to the match.
