Moeller Honored Prior to Match for Her 1,000th Career Assist

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- On Friday night, Fairmont State women's volleyball fell in three sets to the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State University, 25-17,25-23, and 25-16 in Mountain East Conference action. Prior to the match, Kelsey Moeller was honored for collecting her 1,000-career assist two weeks ago at Davis & Elkins.

The Falcons are now 17-8 overall and 7-4 in MEC play. WVSU improves their record to 21-3 and 10-1 in conference.

The Yellow Jackets outhit Fairmont .226 to .118 on the night with 41 total kills to WVSU and 40 for the Fighting Falcons.

In the first set, Fairmont got the match started with two early points with Lilianna Keber having a service ace for the first point. Both sides traded points in the middle stages of the set before WVSU scored four consecutive points and took control of the first set for the 25-17 victory.

The Falcons in the second set found themselves down by six points at 19-13 in favor of the Yellow Jackets before two three-point runs by Fairmont State closed the set to 24-23. WVSU held on as they earned the next point off a double block by Natalie Beer and Gabrielle Bullock.

West Virginia State claimed the match in the third set with a 25-16 to end the match at Joe Retton Arena.

Keara Lewis led the way for the Falcons with a team-high 13 kills and Julia DiPaola followed with 11. Lilianna Keber guided the Falcon offense with 30 assists and chipped in one service ace. DiPaola also contributed with 17 digs to collect a double-double with Lewis also netting a double-double with 13 digs.

Jenna Dufresne had a match-high 18 kills on the night for the Yellow Jackets with a .342 hitting percentage and added 11 digs in the contest. Alex Darby had 23 digs and Kiersten Eggleton started the charge for the Yellow Jackets with 18 assists as Peri Martin followed with 15.

Fairmont State women's volleyball (17-8, 7-4 MEC) looks to get back to their winning ways when they welcome the University of Charleston (15-7, 7-3 MEC) to Joe Retton Arena for Senior Day. Five Falcons will be honored prior to the match with Emily Cordle, Julia DiPaola, Lilianna Keber, Michaela Kevings, and Kelsey Moeller.
