Fairmont State Hosts Wheeling in Regular Season Finale

FAIRMONT, W.Va. - For the second time in the all-time series, Fairmont State and Wheeling will face off the gridiron tonight as the two sides enter their regular season finale on Duvall-Rosier Field. The Fighting Falcons racked up 377 rushing yards en route to a 53-10 victory over the Cardinals in September 2019 with Takwan Crews-Naylor throwing for two touchdowns and Tyree Randolph finding the endzone twice in the Mountain East Conference matchup.

On last Saturday for the Falcons, Fairmont State went on the road to Glenville State in the "Battle for the Bit" game in which the Maroon and White came out on top 24-14. The Falcons used a strong running attack with 40 total carries for 183 net rushing yards. Michael Floria threw for 263 passing yards on 10 completions with Javon Hayes and Shawn Harris each hauling in four receptions. Myles Miree, Donovan Washington, and Floria each scored a touchdown in the victory with Miree carrying the ball for 120 rushing yards on 28 attempts. On the defensive side of the ball, Fairmont State held Glenville State to 340 yards of total offense as Brocton Blair guided the Falcon defense with eight total tackles on the afternoon. Danny Anige and Dalton Dempsey each chipped in with six total tackles. Colin Harvath added three more extra points to his season totals as he is now second all-time in PATS made with 131 in his career.

SCOUTING WHEELING

The Cardinals come into Friday's night contest with a record of 5-5 and 5-4 in MEC play after a 38-20 defeat against the University of Charleston last Saturday in Charleston.

Sy Alli IV is the leading running back for Wheeling with 213 carries for 936 rushing yards and has found the endzone five time. Alli is averaging 4.4 yards per rush and has hauled in 13 passes for 119 receiving yards out of the backfield.

Chad Palmer is the listed QB1 for the Wheeling Cardinals as he started last Saturday's contest against the Golden Eagles going 12-for-27 for 146 passing yards in the loss. Brennon Norris and Trent Jackson each have seen action in seven games on the season with Norris throwing for 1,219 passing yards on 187 total attempts. Norris last saw the field on October 30th against Concord where he went 3-8 for 14 passing yards.

Two Cardinal receivers have caught 40 or more passes in 10 games as Lowell Patron has hauled in 45 catches for 541 receiving yards and Jaquaun Davidson has pulled in 41 passes for 444 yards with three touchdowns. Ryan LaFollette is the favorite wideout in the endzone as he has collected six touchdowns in 39 receptions on the season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Duvall-Rosier Field with Senior Day festivities being held prior to the game for 12 football seniors.
