CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Fairmont State women's basketball dropped a non-conference matchup to the Vulcans of California University of Pennsylvania, 96-66, on Thursday night. The Vulcans used a 17-0 run in the first quarter to pull ahead of the Fighting Falcons in the contest.
Alyssa DeAngelo knocked a three-pointer with 9:31 left to play in the first quarter to give the Falcons the early lead before Cal (PA) gained the lead at 6-5 and would not allow Fairmont State to regain the lead.
The Falcons trimmed the lead to 50-35 at the halftime break but the Vulcans used their height advantage to cruise to a 96-66 victory on Thursday. Cal (PA) outscored Fairmont State 52-22 inside the paint.
Fairmont State went 22-56 (39.3%) from the floor and made eight three-pointers in the game with
Kamrin Weimer having four from beyond the arc for the Falcons.
 DeAngelo and
Jertaya Hall each had 15 points on the night to lead the Falcons. Hall was efficient from the floor going 5-7 from the field and collecting one three-pointer.
Jalen Gibbs also joined her teammates in double figures with 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench.
Fairmont State women's basketball (1-2, 0-0 MEC) begins Mountain East Conference play on Saturday, November 20th when they head to Davis & Elkins College (1-2, 0-0 MEC) for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
