Kotchman Scores Season-High 30 Points in Win Over WVWC

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women's basketball team picked up an 80-58 win over the West Virginia Wesleyan College inside Joe Retton Arena on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Fighting Falcons improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in Mountain East Conference play. The Bobcats fall to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Siera Kotchman led all scorers on the night with 30 points on 11-19 shooting. Kotchman also had six three-pointers in the contest. Alyssa DeAngelo joined Kotchman in double-digits with 18 points on 8-15 from the field and Jertaya Hall chipped in nine points off the bench.

The Falcons and Bobcats traded baskets throughout the first quarter before two made free throws from Katy Darnell and a made basket from DeAngelo gave Fairmont State the 14-10 advantage at the end of the first.

Fairmont State continued to add to their lead in the second quarter with Jalen Gibbs expanding the lead to 12 off a fastbreak layup to make the score 26-14 in favor of the Falcons. The Falcons grabbed three more points to their 12-point cushion to go into the halftime break up 35-20 over the Bobcats.

Out of the halftime break, the Falcons scored five quick points with Kotchman knocking down two free throws to extend the lead to 20 points. At the end of the quarter, Fairmont State had grown their lead to 22 points via a made layup from Kotchman.

The Falcons cruised in the fourth quarter with the final score being 80-58 in favor of Fairmont State on Tuesday evening.

Fairmont State shot 48.4% (31-64) from the field and collected 11 total threes on the night. The Falcons were also 7-9 from the charity stripe in the contest.

The Bobcats were held to 58 points on the night and went 21-59 (35.6%) from the floor. Imani Jackson led WVWC with 13 points and Courtney Wilfong followed with 11 points on the evening.

Fairmont State Women's Basketball (3-2, 2-0 MEC) is back in action after the holiday break when they head to the University of Charleston (3-2, 1-1 MEC) on Wednesday, December 1st. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the Wehrle Innovation Center.
