Sanders Collects Game-High 27 Points in Exhibition at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- In an exhibition with Division I opponent Bowling Green, Fairmont State held tough in a 91-89 defeat inside Stroh Center on Thursday evening. Cole VonHandorf had a chance at the buzzer, but his shot missed in the overtime period.

Isaiah Sanders led all scorers with 27 points on the night going 11-19 from the field and 4-8 from three-point range. George Mangas followed with 21 points on an efficient 8-11 shooting and collecting three three-pointers in the contest. Seth Younkin had a double-double on the night with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Younkin also added five assists in 38 minutes played. Przemyslaw Golek joined his teammates in double figures with 12 points and secured eight boards.

In the first half, Tim Koenig's squad built an 11 point lead, 28-17, after Sanders sent in a dunk with 8:01 to play and earned a free throw to push the Falcons ahead.

Bowling Green closed the cushion and tied the game at 30 with 4:08 in the first half as Sanders regained the lead for Fairmont State at 32-30. The two sides would go back and forth with buckets in the first period as BGSU held a slim lead of 40-39 at the halftime break.

Out of the halftime break, Mangas collected five quick points of his own and Fairmont State regained the 47-43 lead at the 16:34 mark.

Bowling Green knotted the score at 54 each before the Fighting Falcons went on a 7-0 run capped by a three from Briggs Parris.

The Falcons of BGSU would not go away as they tied contest at 65 and eventually took the lead,68-67, with 6:02 remaining in regulation.

Przemyslaw Golek hit a three-pointer at the 2:27 to make the advantage, 77-74, for Fairmont State and VonHandorf pushed the Falcon lead to four with 1:50 in regulation at 80-76.

Trey Diggs of Bowling Green sent the teams into overtime with a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to play inside the Stroh Center.

In the overtime period, BGSU led throughout the five minutes with VonHandorf's three at the buzzer missing to give the Falcons of Bowling Green the 91-89 victory.

Fairmont State was 34-73 (46.6%) from the field and holding Bowling Green to 40.0% from the field (30-75). The Falcons of Fairmont State drained 13 three-pointers and went 8-10 from the charity stripe. The game was tied 13 times between both sides and the lead changed hands 14 times in 45 minutes of play.

Fairmont State begins their regular season on Saturday, November 13th when they host Edinboro in the Joe Retton Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
