Fighting Falcons Continue Win Streak with 93-84 Victory as Kotchman Breaks All-Time Field Goals Record

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State Women's Basketball improved to 6-2 on the season and 5-0 in Mountain East Conference play with a 93-84 victory over Concord University. Sierra Kotchman now has the Fairmont State record for career made field goals with 743.

The Fighting Falcons got off to quick 4-0 start with jumpers made from Kamrin and Alyssa DeAngelo before Concord hit a three to cut the lead to 4-3. 

The two sides traded baskets back and forth throughout the first quarter before Concord took their first lead at 18-16 and closed the first with the 21-18 edge after a three from Jazz Blankenship.

In the second quarter, DeAngelo answered the Mountain Lions with a three-pointer give the Falcons the 25-23 advantage and Fairmont State grew their lead to 31-23 after a layup from Madeline Huffman. DeAngelo converted an and-one opportunity with 35 seconds in the half to give the Falcons the 47-36 lead and went into the break up 47-38 over Concord.

Out of halftime, Concord cut the Falcons' lead to one before Huffman made one free throw and Bre Wilson made a basket to push the lead back to four at 50-46. Fairmont State pushed the lead back to nine with 3:46 left in the third quarter before Concord closed the quarter and only trailed by four heading to the final period.

The fourth quarter would go to Fairmont State after Concord knocked in two points to cut the advantage to two points as the Falcons built the lead back up to eight points at 73-65 with 7:04 remaining in regulation. Fairmont State would not allow the Mountain Lions to get within five points in remainder of the fourth quarter as the Falcons grabbed the 93-84 win over Concord inside Joe Retton Arena.

Kotchman led Fairmont State with 22 points in the game as 20 points came in the second half with eight made field goals. DeAngelo followed her teammate with 20 points as Weimer chipped in 15 for the Falcons. Bre Wilson and Katy Darnell joined their teammates in double figures with 11 and 10 points. Darnell also added 13 rebounds for a double-double.

The Falcons shot 41.2% (28-68) from the floor and collected nine three-pointers. Fairmont State added 28 points from the charity stripe on 34 attempts and held the advantage in points off turnovers (29-10) and fast break points (22-6) over Concord.

Fairmont State (6-2, 5-0 MEC) hits the road next when they head to Glenville State (8-0, 4-0 MEC) on Monday, December 13th for a 12 p.m. contest with the Pioneers.
