FROSTBURG, Md. -- Fairmont State used a 20-6 scoring run to end the first half and shot 52 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from Frostburg State, 99-75, on Wednesday night at Bobcat Arena. The Falcons racked up 55 points in the second half to take control and put the game away.
The Falcons (7-2, 7-2 MEC) led by just eight at the break, 44-36, but came out of the locker room hot scoring the first nine points leading to a 12-2 run. The Bobcats (3-7, 3-7 MEC) remained within striking distance for a while, but another 9-0 run from Fairmont State put the game out of reach at the 12:57 mark following a three from the corner by
Steven Solomon.
Solomon's three gave the Falcons a 67-45 advantage that would stretch to as many as 26 with under a minute remaining.
The Falcons outshot Frostburg State 46.5%-to-38.4% in the win. Fairmont State also controlled the glass on the rebound holding a 56-33 advantage – including 18 offensive rebounds that led to 16 second-chance points. FSU also scored 21 points off turnovers in the win.
Isaiah Sanders led Fairmont State with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Dale Bonner chipped in 19 points and had six assists. Cole Vonhandorf also just missed a double-double with 18 points to go with nine boards, while
Przemyslaw Golek had 10 points and six rebounds.
Seth Younkin pulled down a career- and game-high 15 rebounds and scored nine points.
Zyon Dobbs also came off the bench and chipped in eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Fairmont once again moved the ball well on the offensive end, recording 19 assists on 33 made baskets.
Canaan Bartley had 17 points and eight rebounds for Frostburg State. Jaylon Johnson also contributed 15 points for the Bobcats.
Fairmont State will return to action on Saturday against Wheeling University. Tip Is set for 4:30 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
